Previously on Friday, November 22 2023, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning announced that the Chinese Government was implementing a 15-day visa exemption for Malaysian citizens which was valid from December 1 2023 to November 30 2024.

“Early this year, the two countries reached an important mutual understanding in building a China-Malaysia community for a shared future, and next year marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries,” said Wang Wenbin.

He believes the visa-free policy for both Chinese and Malaysian citizens will further increase cross-border travel between the two countries.

“China is ready to work with Malaysia to continue to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation and cultural and societal exchanges to provide more fruitful results and enhance friendship,” Wang Wenbin added.

China lifted movement restrictions since the COVID-19 pandemic in December 2022 but only issued tourist visas in March 2023. The Chinese government will also implement a 15-day visa exemption for citizens of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain starting December 1, 2023.

Meanwhile in Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim said the visa-free facility was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China in 2024. The visa-free facility will follow security procedures to screen visitors and tourists. (AT Network)
