$12 Billion Corruption Scandal at Pertamina: Attorney General’s Office Investigated 10 More Witnesses

Harli Siregar, Head of the Attorney General’s Legal Information Center. Special

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has intensified its investigation into the alleged corruption surrounding the government’s Chromebook procurement program.

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, prosecutors conducted a surprise raid at the headquarters of tech giant PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) in South Jakarta, seizing a trove of key evidence including official documents, letters, and electronic storage devices.

“The items confiscated include physical documents and electronic evidence such as flash drives,” said Harli Siregar, spokesperson for the AGO, during a press briefing on Friday, July 11, 2025.

This move signals the AGO’s firm stance in tracing digital and financial trails linked to the Chromebook procurement project, which was launched during Nadiem Makarim’s tenure as Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

According to Harli, investigators are currently analyzing the seized items to determine their relevance and potential links to the ongoing corruption case.

“We hope these materials will lead to substantial breakthroughs and help solidify the legal evidence necessary for prosecution,” he said.

The raid is particularly notable due to GoTo’s stature as one of Indonesia’s largest tech conglomerates. The company had previously partnered with various tech and logistics entities potentially linked to government procurement projects.

Former Minister Nadiem Makarim Summoned Again

In a separate development, the AGO confirmed that former Minister Nadiem Makarim will be summoned once more for questioning on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a witness in the Chromebook corruption probe.

“There are still many areas the prosecutors wish to clarify, particularly regarding procurement procedures, vendor selection, and oversight responsibilities during his leadership,” Harli explained.

This second round of questioning could provide deeper insight into potential systemic failures or negligence that allowed the alleged misuse of public funds in the multi-million-dollar educational project.

In response to the raid, GoTo issued a public statement affirming its commitment to legal compliance and full cooperation with law enforcement.

“As a publicly listed company, we are committed to good corporate governance, transparency, and accountability, in line with prevailing regulations,” said Ade Mulya, GoTo’s Director of Public Affairs and Communications.

“We fully respect the ongoing legal process and are ready to support the authorities in uncovering the truth,” he added. (AT Network)
