ASIATODAY.ID, SAN FRANCISCO – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo held a meeting with Vale Base Metal CEO Deshnee Naido at the Four Season Hotel, San Francisco, United States, on Friday, November 17 2023.
During the meeting, President Jokowi said that Indonesia welcomed the increase in MIND ID’s shares in PT Vale Indonesia Tbk by 14 percent.
“This divestment will make MIND ID the largest shareholder in Vale, so that MIND ID and Vale Canada can exercise joint control over Vale,” he said, quoted from the district secretary’s broadcast.
President Jokowi also appreciated Vale’s support for more advanced nickel downstream efforts in Indonesia. President Jokowi said that this included collaboration with Ford and Zhejiang Huayou to build a smelter and refinery for electric vehicle battery materials in the Pomalaa Block, Southeast Sulawesi.
“Indonesia also appreciates Vale’s commitment to partner with Indonesia and Vale’s support in encouraging Indonesia to enjoy IRA incentives from the United States,” he continued.
President Jokowi also hopes that Vale’s support for clean energy transition efforts in Indonesia which upholds environmental, social and governance aspects or Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) can be stronger.
“Thank you for Vale’s commitment to implementing ESG principles, including preserving biodiversity through the development of the Biodiversity Park, South Sulawesi, which I inaugurated at the end of March,” he said.
During the meeting, President Jokowi also witnessed the signing of the master agreement between MIND ID and Vale Canada and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd regarding the divestment of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk shares. (AT Network)
