East Java Explores Collaboration with Japan to Build MRT

MRT Jakarta. Doc

ASIATODAY.ID, SURABAYA – The East Java Provincial Government is exploring cooperation with the Japanese Government for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project.

“Currently we are exploring cooperation for the MRT project in East Java. Like the MRT in Jakarta which is also collaborating with Japan for its construction,” said Acting Governor of East Java, Adhy Karyono, Thursday, February 22 2024.

Adhy Karyono said that Japan had invested in East Java from 2010-2023. It is recorded that there are 23 business sectors spread across 15 districts/cities in East Java with an investment value of $4.7 million.

The largest investment is in the basic metal industry sector, non-machined metal goods and equipment.

According to Adhy Karyono, in the near future the East Java provincial government intends to study disaster management, especially regarding disaster preparedness in Tokyo and Osaka.

“Then we also want to develop creative industries in the field of film and animation which we will later connect with the Singhasari Special Economic Zone,” he said.

Japan has been the number one country for exports from East Java since 2019. It became number two in 2022, but in 2023 it will again become the number one country for exports of East Java products.

“The East Java-Japan trade balance in 2023 will experience a surplus for East Java of $1,390 million,” said Adhy. (ATN)
