ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has emerged on Indonesia’s strategic radar after President Prabowo Subianto received top executives from the company alongside Garuda Indonesia CEO Glenny Kairupan at the Merdeka Palace on Monday, February 2, 2026.

The meeting underscored the Indonesian government’s growing focus on advanced aviation technology and the country’s ambition to strengthen its position within the global aerospace ecosystem.

Discussions centered on rapid technological developments in the aviation industry and how Indonesia’s national carrier can adapt to these shifts.

Speaking after the meeting, Garuda Indonesia CEO Glenny Kairupan said the conversation with President Prabowo was informal but substantive, focusing on the future of both national and global aviation.

“We talked about aviation in general—Indonesia’s aviation sector, Garuda, and how aircraft technology today is advancing at an extraordinary pace,” Glenny said.

“The key question is how Indonesia can actively participate and not fall behind in these technological developments.”

Despite Embraer’s presence, Glenny emphasized that the meeting did not include discussions on aircraft procurement.

He said the talks remain at an exploratory stage, focused on coordination and the exchange of perspectives on global aviation technology trends.

“There has been no discussion about purchasing aircraft. At this stage, it’s about understanding and coordinating on technological developments,” he clarified.

President Prabowo, according to Glenny, stressed that Indonesia must be able to keep pace with global technological progress, particularly in strategic sectors such as aviation.

“Indonesia must follow and adapt to global technological developments,” Glenny said, quoting the President.

The meeting with Embraer reflects the government’s broader commitment to modernizing Indonesia’s aviation industry, enhancing the competitiveness of national airlines, and positioning the country within the global aviation value chain.

The initiative aligns with efforts to strengthen national connectivity, improve air transport services, and support long-term economic growth and tourism development. (AT Network)
