ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The European Union (EU) Center at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) was officially opened friday, November 22, 2024 as a joint initiative between the European Union Delegation to Indonesia and UNAIR.
Located on Floor 12 of ASEEC Tower, Campus B, the EU Center is designed to be a hub for encouraging academic collaboration and deepening understanding of the European Union’s range of institutions, policies and values.
The EU Center at UNAIR will provide useful resources for students, academics and the general public about European Union relations, opening access to publications, information materials and opportunities for academic and cultural exchange.
As part of this achievement, the European Union and UNAIR also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which establishes a framework to increase collaboration. This MoU will facilitate various activities, including lecture sessions with Ambassadors, information sessions on EU-funded scholarships under the Erasmus and Horizon Europe programs, visits to the European Union Delegation in Jakarta, and internship opportunities for students.
“Indonesia and the European Union have the same ambition to realize peace and sustainable development, as well as celebrate each other’s cultural diversity. To realize these aspirations, Airlangga University and the European Union Delegation in Indonesia have inaugurated the EU Centre, a means of exchanging ideas and knowledge. “The EU Center will provide access to important materials about the European Union, empowering young people and the Indonesian academic community,” said H.E. Denis Chaibi, Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia.
“On its 70th anniversary this month, Universitas Airlangga is proud to host the first EU Center in Indonesia on our campus. This initiative is in line with our vision to increase global enhancement and provide the best resources for our students to be successful in an increasingly globalized world. The EU Center will be a unique facility to broaden our students’ knowledge of European Union relations and open the door to new academic opportunities. Currently, Airlangga University has 57 collaboration agreements with 45 educational institutions in 20 European Union member countries. “Through the EU Centre, we hope to strengthen our collaboration with the European Union and its member countries, as well as further increase cooperation with universities in Europe,” said Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., Chancellor of Airlangga University.
To celebrate the inauguration day, relevant experts will provide an information seminar regarding research opportunities with EURAXESS and the Erasmus+ scholarship program. Apart from that, the inauguration of the EU Center also featured cultural performances that highlighted the rich traditions of Indonesia and Europe.
In the future, the EU Center at UNAIR will hold a number of activities regularly, including lecture sessions, discussions, seminars, workshops, competitions and cultural festivals, all of which aim to increase public understanding of the European Union and strengthen EU-Indonesia relations, as well as promote social interactions between countries.
