ICDF Taiwan Launches Strategic Agricultural Projects in Sulawesi and Java

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — The International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF Taiwan) has officially launched two strategic agricultural projects in Indonesia, set to begin in 2026.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in the 49-year agricultural partnership between Taiwan and Indonesia.

The new projects will be implemented in South Sulawesi and West Java, each focusing on key areas of agricultural development:

These programs aim to boost regional food security and accelerate the modernization of Indonesia’s agricultural sector.

Supporting Indonesia’s Food Self-Sufficiency Agenda

Bruce Hung, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Indonesia, emphasized that the new initiatives align with President Prabowo Subianto’s food self-sufficiency program.

He reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to being a long-term partner in developing superior seeds, enhancing supply chains, and upgrading farmers’ skills and capacities.

Building on 49 Years of Agricultural Collaboration

The announcement was made during the event “Inheriting and Advancing – A New Chapter of Technical Cooperation in Indonesia”, which also commemorated nearly five decades of Taiwan–Indonesia cooperation.

The event showcased notable achievements from previous collaborations, including:

The Garlic and Shallot Production-Marketing Assistance Program in North Sumatra

The Vegetable–Fruit Marketing System Enhancement Program in Karawang

These programs highlight ICDF Taiwan’s effective technical approach in improving local agricultural productivity and market efficiency.

Strengthening Academic and Technical Partnerships

During the keynote session, Prof. Dr. Yunus from Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) highlighted the substantial impact of the long-standing UNHAS–ICDF partnership in South Sulawesi.

He also introduced the upcoming corn seed development project, signaling the start of a new phase in regional seed innovation.

Taiwan’s Commitment to Sustainable Agriculture

ICDF Deputy Secretary-General Hsieh Pei-fen underscored Taiwan’s dedication to assisting partner countries in addressing climate change challenges and advancing agricultural transformation.

She emphasized that ICDF will continue to uphold the principles of “professional cooperation and local empowerment”, in line with Taiwan’s Prosperity Partnership Policy. (AT Network)
