ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesian Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan will tighten import regulations for ceramic products, by increasing import duties. This step was taken after it was discovered that many imported ceramic products did not meet Indonesian National Standards (SNI), especially from China.
“We will impose tariffs on imported ceramic products for households and others. “So you will be subject to high taxes if you enter from outside and have to meet SNI standards, then the taxes will be high,” said Zulkifli Hasan, Friday, June 21 2024.
According to Zulkifli, this government step is also to protect the domestic ceramic industry from the onslaught of imported Chinese ceramics, which are very cheap.
So far, the Ministry of Trade has confiscated around 4.56 million imported ceramic products from China, such as tableware with various brands that do not meet the provisions. The value reached IDR 79.90 billion. These products do not have an Indonesian National Standard Product Use Certificate (SPPT-SNI), there is no labeling, and the SNI has expired for a number of brands.
“Based on the results of supervision, PT BTAC was proven to be importing and trading ceramic tableware products of various brands and types of imported origin that do not have SPPT-SNI, no labeling, and the SNI has expired for a number of brands,” he explained.
According to him, the widespread circulation of imported ceramic tableware products that do not meet standards can be detrimental to consumers, both in terms of health, security and safety, as well as threatening the domestic industry. Based on these findings, the Ministry of Trade has taken security measures.
“With comprehensive supervision, the Ministry of Trade is committed to always protecting consumers from the impacts that can be caused by products that do not comply with the required standards,” he concluded. (ATN)
