ASIATODAY.ID, ABU DHABI – Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) agreed on eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) during the state visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo which was held on 16-17 July 2024.
The eight MoUs produced at the meeting were: (1) MoU between the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises and Eagle Hills regarding tourism and air transportation; (2) MoU between the Nusantara Capital Authority and the Dubai International Financial Center Authority regarding the establishment of a Financial Center in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN); (3) MoU between the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Emirates Nuclear Energy (ENEC) regarding nuclear energy; (4) MoU between Bank Indonesia (BI) and UAECB regarding the payment system; (5) MoU between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Finance regarding Public Finance Management; (6) Framework Agreement between PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI) & PAL Aerospace regarding Technology Transfer of Maritime Patrol Aircraft and Anti-Submarine Warfare; (7) MoU between Masdar and PLN Icon+ for a Joint Assessment and Study of Rooftop Solar installations in the commercial and industrial sectors in Indonesia; (8) MoU between the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund of the United Arab Emirates and the Ministry of Economy and Investment regarding the construction of the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Joko Widodo International Mangrove Research Center in Bali.
During this visit, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo held a bilateral meeting with the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohamed bin Zayed (MBZ) at Al Watan Palace, Abu Dhabi.
On that occasion, President Jokowi also received an honorary decoration, the Order of Zayed, from the President of the UAE. The Order of Zayed is the UAE’s highest civilian award for world figures.
During the meeting, President Jokowi conveyed several important points.
First, Indonesia and the UAE have had CEPA since September 2023.
Second, the President welcomed cooperation in strategic industries.
Third, UAE investment in Indonesia is getting stronger, especially in the development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) and industrial downstreaming.
Fourth, the UAE’s investment support in the fields of climate and clean energy is appreciated.
Finally, President Jokowi welcomed the presentation of the 2024 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity to NU and Muhammadiyah and invited President MBZ to Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the UAE is an important partner for Indonesia in the Middle East, with trade and investment relations that continue to increase. In the 2015-2023 period, bilateral trade increased 52%, reaching US$3.282 billion in 2023, with Indonesia recording a surplus of US$0.29 billion. This strong cooperation is an important asset to strengthen relations between the two countries in the future. (AT Network)
