ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Government and Goverment of the United Kingdom (UK) have agreed on strategic cooperation in the field of critical minerals.
The cooperation agreement was outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia and the UK Minister of Development Anneliese Dodds representing the UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development, at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Wednesday , last September 18 2024.
In this MoU, Indonesia and the UK agreed to an agreement to exchange technology and expertise in the field of sustainable critical minerals. This MoU will be the foundation for further cooperation.

“This is an agreement between the governments of Indonesia and the UK, the substance of which is that we will exchange technology for cooperation in the mineral sector, this is part of the follow-up to what has been the agreement so far between the two countries. The Minister and I have signed. We will carry out the follow-up. Bahlil said.
Dodds said that this MoU was important for the cooperative relations between the two countries which had been strong, and would be renewed again through this collaboration.
“I am very pleased, as the new government in the UK, that we have completed this MoU, so that we can together ensure the potential for green growth, the potential for jobs and the positive potential for local communities. It is a pleasure to be able to work together with the Indonesian Government, ” he said.
Dodds also said that this MoU creates a framework for cooperation and collaboration between the UK and Indonesia regarding critical minerals. This MoU supports various issues, joint commitments, investment, job creation, and to ensure benefits for society.
The MoU between the Indonesian and UK governments has areas of cooperation including: mineral resources, geology, mining, processing, manufacturing, recycling, modern mining technology, post-mining and environmental rehabilitation.
The aim of this MoU is to build a framework for cooperation between Indonesia and the UK to facilitate the sharing of technical knowledge, advice, skills and expertise on sustainable critical minerals, as well as to reduce potential environmental and social risks associated with mining activities.
