ASIATODAY.ID, RIYADH — Indonesia and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have entered the final stage of formulating the Indonesia–UNIDO Programme for Country Partnership (IUPCP) 2026–2030.
The new partnership framework is set to strengthen Indonesia’s industrial diplomacy, accelerate green industrial transformation, and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The upcoming program builds on the achievements of the Indonesia–UNIDO Country Programme (IUCP) 2021–2025, which delivered notable progress in industrial competitiveness, clean technology adoption, production efficiency, and the implementation of sustainable industrial standards.
Vice Minister of Industry Faisol Riza emphasized that cooperation with UNIDO is a critical foundation for Indonesia’s future industrial development.
“Indonesia is accelerating its green industrial transformation as the main pathway to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060. For the manufacturing sector, the target is even faster—2050—to ensure we remain competitive in a global low-carbon market,” he stated during a bilateral meeting with UNIDO in Riyadh on Monday, November 24, 2025.
He noted the concrete impact of flagship programs such as the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP) and the Global Greenchem Innovation and Network Programme (GGINP) that have supported Indonesia’s industrial modernization throughout 2021–2025.
The bilateral meeting was led by senior UNIDO officials, including Mr. Ciyong Zou, Deputy to the Director General & Managing Director, and Mr. Francesco Azzena, Project Coordinator of the UNIDO Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific.
Five Industrial Zones Become Eco-Industrial Park Pilots
Under GEIPP Phase II, the Ministry of Industry recorded five industrial zones designated as pilot eco-industrial parks, including: Batamindo, MM2100, KIIC Karawang, Medan Industrial Estate, and Deltamas.
These pilot projects are expected to accelerate the nationwide implementation of green and resource-efficient industrial zones.
Expanded Scope for 2026–2030: Digitalization, Human Capital, and Downstreaming
According to the Vice Minister, the upcoming IUPCP will broaden Indonesia–UNIDO cooperation in both scale and technical support.
Priority areas in IUPCP 2026–2030 include:
Standardization and certification for green industry
Strengthening downstream industrialization and global supply chains
Accelerating Industry 4.0 digital transformation
Human capital development
Regional development and industrial ecosystem expansion
The Ministry is also preparing the establishment of an Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) Center at the Indonesia 4.0 Digital Industry Center to serve as a hub for excellence, incubation, and green industrial transformation.
New Synergies: Collaboration with the BRICS Center for Industrial Competencies
Indonesia and UNIDO also explored potential synergies with the BRICS Center for Industrial Competencies (BCIC), focusing on:
Industrial workforce development
Competitiveness of SMEs
Circular economy initiatives
Accelerated digital transformation
This collaboration is increasingly relevant as global markets demand low-emission and sustainable industrial systems.
Beyond Java: Ensuring Equal Benefits and Strengthening Regulations
The Vice Minister stressed the importance of expanding program impacts beyond Java to ensure broader benefits for industries across Indonesia.
The Ministry of Industry is also finalizing regulatory frameworks to support green industrial zones and ensure long-term implementation of sustainable standards and certifications.
“Through our collaboration with UNIDO, Indonesia aims to ensure that the green industrial transition delivers real economic, social, and environmental benefits for businesses and communities,” he concluded. (AT Network)
