ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Hadi Tjahjanto, revealed that the South China Sea dispute is now increasingly complex in line with the chaos between China and the United States (US).

According to Hadi, the complex disputes in the South China Sea are due to geopolitical rivalry between the United States and China in the region.

Recently, Hadi said, China has become more assertive and even aggressive in seizing the South China Sea, while the United States has begun to build alliance strength to stem China’s influence in the region.

“The US wants to emphasize that the principle of freedom of navigation continues to apply in the South China Sea,” he said in Jakarta, Tuesday, March 19 2024.

Hadi emphasized that to anticipate the power of China and the United States, the Indonesian government is also strengthening the security of the North Natuna Sea by preparing the main weapons system and improving the facilities and infrastructure of TNI integrated units.

“Indonesia, as a natural leader in ASEAN, needs to strengthen ASEAN’s solidity and centrality and build a joint position with ASEAN on the South China Sea issue,” said Hadi.

Apart from that, Hadi also admitted that he would be more careful in handling conflicts and responding to the developing dynamics in the South China Sea.

According to him, if we are not careful, it is feared that the intensity of the conflict will increase and cause mutual losses.

“China is a comprehensive and strategic partner for Indonesia and ASEAN which has a central role in ensuring regional peace and stability,” he added. (AT Network)
