ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia has officially declared a total war against narcotics crime as President Prabowo Subianto personally led the destruction of 214.84 tons of illegal drugs worth an estimated Rp29.37 trillion (US$1.8 billion) at the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

The unprecedented event symbolizes the government’s firm resolve to combat drug trafficking and abuse, which the President described as one of the greatest threats to the nation’s future.

“Among all threats to the country — military, political, or psychological — none are more destructive than drugs. Narcotics destroy the future of our nation,” President Prabowo said during the ceremony.

Largest Drug Destruction in Indonesia’s History

The destroyed evidence was collected from drug raids conducted between October 2024 and October 2025, totaling 214,840,682 grams of narcotics. Prior to destruction, samples were verified and tested by the National Police Forensic Laboratory (Puslabfor).

Authorities estimate that these seizures saved more than 629 million potential users from exposure to narcotics, with the confiscated drugs valued at Rp29.36 trillion.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to an integrated and sustainable anti-drug strategy.

“We are strengthening both prevention and law enforcement through a comprehensive, nationwide approach,” the police chief said.

Prabowo: The Fight Against Drugs Is a National Mission

President Prabowo emphasized that the fight against narcotics is not merely a law enforcement issue but a national mission requiring total cooperation among institutions.

“This must be a collective effort — between the Police, the National Narcotics Board (BNN), Customs, the Attorney General’s Office, intelligence agencies, and local governments,” he asserted.

The President also underscored the importance of rehabilitation and early prevention, calling for stronger anti-drug education in schools and community organizations.

“Prevention must start from an early age — from elementary schools to universities. Youth activities, scouting, and sports programs are essential to build resilience among our young generation,” Prabowo added.

Turning Drug Hotspots into Clean Communities

The President praised law enforcement agencies for successfully transforming 228 “drug-prone villages” into 118 drug-free zones.

He lauded the progress as a tangible result of joint efforts in reclaiming communities from the grip of narcotics networks.

“Keep up the good work. The police are becoming more responsive to the people’s call and the nation’s needs,” he said.

National Unity Against Drug Threat

The high-profile event was attended by People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani, House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani, cabinet ministers, agency heads, and community leaders — signaling a united national front against the drug menace.

President Prabowo closed his remarks with a powerful message of determination:

“Indonesia will not lose this war. We are fighting total war against narcotics — for the sake of our nation’s future.”
