ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is currently developing a comprehensive decarbonization roadmap for nine priority industrial sectors. This strategic initiative is part of the nation’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions and boosting the global competitiveness of its green industries.
Head of the Agency for Standardization and Industrial Services Policy at the Ministry of Industry, Andi Rizaldi, emphasized that decarbonization is a necessity for the industrial sector to remain relevant amid the global energy transition and increasing demand for low-carbon products.
“We are focusing on nine high-emission sectors to accelerate decarbonization. This reflects the government’s seriousness in transforming Indonesia’s industrial sector to become greener and more sustainable,” Andi stated during the AIGIS Goes to Campus event at Bina Nusantara University (Binus) in Jakarta, July 22, 2025.
The nine industrial sectors prioritized in the decarbonization roadmap are: Cement, Fertilizers, Metals, Pulp and Paper, Textiles, Chemicals, Automotive, Food and Beverages, Glass and Ceramics.
These sectors are categorized as major greenhouse gas (GHG) emitters. The Ministry is preparing technical guidelines, supporting policies, technology requirements, funding mechanisms, and cross-sector collaboration as part of the roadmap development.
Andi noted that the Ministry of Industry aims for the national industrial sector to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, ten years ahead of the national target.
“We cannot do this alone. The roadmap is being developed through multi-stakeholder collaboration involving industry players, business associations, academia, and international institutions to ensure that the strategies are practical, measurable, and impactful,” he added.
Andi also highlighted the critical role of universities in developing sustainable technological solutions. Binus University, in particular, is seen as having strong potential to be an innovation incubator for future green innovators.
“Young people are the catalysts for change. We aim to build a collaborative ecosystem between industry and academia to accelerate a just and inclusive green industrial transformation,” he said.
AIGIS Goes to Campus is part of a series of events leading up to The 2nd AIGIS 2025, to be held from August 20–22, 2025, at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC).
AIGIS — or Accelerating Industry Green Innovation Strategy — is a flagship initiative by the Ministry of Industry that integrates policy, technology, and public participation to fast-track the transition toward a green industrial economy.
Previously, AIGIS Goes to Campus events have been held at the University of Indonesia, Padjadjaran University, and Trisakti University.
GISCO: Driving Low-Carbon Technology Adoption
At AIGIS 2025, the Ministry will also launch the Green Industry Service Company (GISCO) — a new entity aimed at bridging the gap between industry needs and access to green technologies and sustainable financing.
“GISCO will become a key driver of industrial decarbonization, especially for businesses facing investment barriers in adopting green technologies,” said Andi.
Through this initiative, the government is turning its green industry ambitions into actionable plans, anchored in cross-sector collaboration and driven by a new generation of innovators. (AT Network)
