ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono released the export of 9 containers containing 243 tons of fishery products worth IDR 18.7 billion to China.
This export is the first to be carried out from the Cold Storage facility of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in Muara Baru. The exported fish comes from catches in Zone I and Zone III of the Measured Fishing Area.
“Measured fishing will later be included in version 1, version 2, version 3 and so on according to the times. Fishing is regulated by which types of fish can be caught, then the method of catching them is environmentally friendly and sustainable, then conveyed to consumers, so that we can promise that the fish “We will export it well, both in terms of health and hygiene,” said Minister Trenggono, Thursday (9/11/2023).
China is a fishery product market that has very significant growth, namely 22% per year over the last 5 years. Based on International Trade Statistics data, in 2022 China’s imports of fishery products will reach US$23.5 billion or 12% of total world imports, placing China as the 2nd global importer of fishery products after the United States.
“This market opportunity has been exploited by several global fisheries producing countries, including Indonesia,” he explained.
China’s main import commodity is Shrimp at US$ 6.29 billion with a percentage of 26.8%, followed by Fish Meal at US$ 2.99 billion, Lobster at US$ 1.64 billion, Crab-Crab at US$ 1.56 billion, Salmon-Trout at US$ 1. .43 billion, and Squid-Cuttle-Octopus US$ 1.04 billion.
The main supplier countries include Ecuador with a contribution of 15.4%, followed by Russia with a contribution of 12.6%. Next is Vietnam with a contribution of 8.5%.
Even though it is still in 8th place with a value of US$1.2 billion and contributing 5.3%, the value of Indonesia’s exports increased 28% compared to 2021.
“This growth provides an opportunity for Indonesia to continue to increase exports to China,” he said.
Likewise, the Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products, Budi Sulistiyo, explained that during the January-September 2023 period, the export value of Indonesian fishery products to China would reach US$790 million. These exports were dominated by seaweed at US$259 million or 32.8%, squid-cuttlefish-octopus at US$223 million (28.2%), and shrimp at US$84 million (10.6%).
Next are Crab US$39 million, Layur-Gulama US$28 million, Pomfret US$10 million, and Tuna-Cakalang and Ornamental Fish US$9 million each.
“Indonesian export commodities that are experiencing a positive trend in the Chinese market include: Squid, Cuttlefish, Octopus, Shrimp, Seaweed, Pomfret, Skipjack Tuna, Ornamental Fish, Jellyfish and Milkfish,” explained Budi.
The plan is for fishery commodities to be exported by PT. Menara Bahari Nusantara, users of cold storage services in Muara Baru amount to 7,000 tons or worth IDR 409.7 billion.
This activity is an opening for exports, because this company has entered into a trade contract with a Chinese buyer, Fujian Changshun Investment Development Co., Ltd.
“Thank God, this exporter has fulfilled the requirements for the Processing Feasibility Certificate and HACCP, and has an export registration number to China,” explained Budi.
Through this export, Budi hopes that the use of cold storage can be maximized, especially in supporting measurable fishing.
“The quality of the fish caught will be maintained by being stored in cold storage, and will also guarantee the availability of a continuous supply,” he concluded. (AT Network)
