In implementing security, BAPETEN coordinated with the Presidential Security Force as security coordinator at the 2024 World Water Forum.

“BAPETEN is taking part in securing the 2024 World Water Forum Major Public Event (MPE) to ensure that there is no misuse of radioactive substances for terror purposes to disrupt the event,” said Zulkarnain, on Saturday, May 18 2024 in Jakarta.

He revealed, in holding the 10th World Water Forum, the BAPETEN Team was tasked with carrying out initial mapping (baseline) of environmental radioactivity as well as detection around activity locations (monitoring and sterilization) with assistance from the Presidential Security Force.

The BAPETEN team also acts as a Mobile Expert Support Team (MEST) which will assist with response actions, when nuclear security threats or incidents occur, either before or during the 10th World Water Forum activities.

Security activities will be carried out starting May 16 2024 by mapping background radiation levels at several locations for the 10th World Water Forum and several other locations that are considered vital, including activity venues at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) and Gala Dinner locations in the area. GWK Bali. Mapping was also carried out in the airport area and Nusa Dua area.

“This activity is intended to obtain data regarding environmental radioactivity values under normal conditions, so that if it is discovered that there is an increase in radioactivity values that exceeds the set limits and has the potential to disrupt the running of the 2024 World Water Forum, appropriate response steps can be taken immediately,” said Zulkarnain.

The 10th World Water Forum is one of the MPEs of international standard and high political value. Thus, the security threat to these activities is also very high, including the use of radioactivity or nuclear weapons for terror purposes.

Meanwhile, BAPETEN’s Engineering Coordinator, Wita Kustiana, said that BAPETEN had assigned 10 personnel equipped with various complete detection equipment, to secure the running of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali.

“BAPETEN assigned 10 personnel to secure the 2024 World Water Forum, accompanied by complete detection and response equipment including backpack spectrometer (AT6101C spectrometer), radiation surveymeter (RadEye PRD), contamination surveymeter (RadEye B-20), nuclide identification tool (identifinder), “PPE and personal dosimeters,” said Wita Kustiana.
