ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian government officially launched the Roadmap for the Implementation and Development of Green Buildings, in Jakarta, Saturday, October 12 2024.
The launch, which coincides with World Habitat Day and World Cities Day, is a joint effort to face the challenge of climate change and meet the target of limiting global temperature increase so that it does not exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius.
This initiative was launched by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources together with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
This road map is a follow-up to the government’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions nationally, towards the long-term achievement target of realizing Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in Indonesia. This is also in line with Law 54 of 2024 concerning the National Long Term Development Plan for 2020-2045 to continue reducing carbon emissions and realizing low carbon development in Indonesia.
“The launch of this roadmap can be the initial momentum for implementing green building practices in Indonesia by strengthening synergies across central and regional government agencies, as an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the building subsector,” said the Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Public Housing. Basuki Hadimuljono.
This road map for Green Building Implementation contains work plans related to policy, implementation, capacity building, public awareness, as well as technology and innovation. These work plans outline activities that can be immediately followed up to encourage the implementation and growth of green buildings in Indonesia.
The preparation of this roadmap received support and assistance from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in collaboration with the Global Buildings Performance Network (GBPN) which also supports the decarbonization agenda in the building sub-sector.
GBPN Executive Director, Peter Graham said, “The launch of the road map and its supporting work plans is an important stage in realizing a building decarbonization strategy that is data-based and includes the roles of all policy and interest stakeholders in line with internationally commendable practices.”
Peter also added, “we are ready to continue collaborating with the Indonesian government in implementing the work plans in this roadmap in the journey to decarbonize buildings in Indonesia.” (AT Network)
