ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto confirmed that the Ministry of Defense will open all Indonesian National Army (TNI) hospitals to treat patients in Palestine. One of the things that will be prepared is a floating hospital.
The hospital ship will be on standby in the waters around Gaza to treat refugees affected by the war.
The presidential candidate from the Advanced Indonesia Coalition confirmed that currently the government is coordinating with the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al Shun regarding this good faith.
“Earlier I conveyed this to the Palestinian ambassador, we are opening all Indonesian National Army hospitals to be ready to receive patients from Palestine. I have conveyed this,” he said at Halim Perdanakusuma Indonesian Air Force Base, Jakarta, Friday (4/11/2023) .
Furthermore, Prabowo said that coordination would also be carried out with the parties in power to build the Indonesian National Army hospital in Gaza, especially the Egyptian government and other countries. The hope is that Palestinian victims can be evacuated to the hospital.
“Then we will coordinate with the Egyptian side. The TNI is also ready to send a hospital ship to standby there to provide more assistance,” he added.
Prabowo also confirmed that he would immediately invite the Egyptian Ambassador and the Palestinian Ambassador on Monday (6/11/2023) to coordinate in order to expedite aid for the people of Gaza.
“To make things smoother, help with coordination and so on. We will continue to coordinate, on Monday I invited the Egyptian ambassador and the Palestinian ambassador to coordinate further assistance,” he said.
He also responded to community action through the Palestinian Solidarity movement by means of a massive boycott of Israeli products and technology being carried out at this time.
According to him, the attitude of the Indonesian people regarding support for the Palestinian struggle is clear. This was also confirmed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)’s statement that the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza, Palestine cannot be tolerated.
“Our struggle is clear, the President has spoken, our struggle also takes into account our interests and struggles,” he said.
For your information, President Jokowi has sent humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. In total, there was 51.5 tonnes of aid in the form of food, medical equipment and blankets and tents.
Currently Indonesia has 3 Indonesian hospital ships, the latest being the KRI Dr Radjiman Wedyodiningrat hospital ship.
Previously, the Indonesian Navy already had KRI Dr Soeharso-990 and KRI Dr Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991. The use of the name Radjiman Wedyodiningrat was based on the considerations of a doctor who received the title of national hero and one of the founding figures of the Republic of Indonesia.
This ship is approximately 124 meters long. With a displacement of 7,300 tons, the ship is capable of traveling at a speed of 18 knots.
Meanwhile, its capacity is capable of carrying 163 crew members, 18 helicopter pilots and crew, 1 VVIP guest, 66 medical staff, 158 patients and 280 volunteers. This ship is also able to survive for 30 days at sea with the material capacity of 3 helicopters. (ATN)
