ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia has delivered USD 12 million in food assistance to the people of Gaza through the World Food Programme (WFP). This initiative reflects the Government of Indonesia’s swift and effective response to the urgent food insecurity crisis in Gaza.

The aid is part of Indonesia’s commitment to provide 10,000 tons of rice, as announced by President Joko Widodo during the UN General Assembly on 23 September 2025. In line with an agreement with the Palestinian government, the assistance was channeled through WFP, one of the few international organizations with access to Gaza, given the deteriorating security situation on the ground.

“The joint decision by the Governments of Palestine and Indonesia to deliver this aid through the World Food Programme was made to ensure rapid and targeted distribution. This is the best option considering the severe restrictions on humanitarian access to Gaza, while the food needs are extremely urgent,” said Foreign Minister Sugiono in an official statement on Tuesday, 30 September 2025.

Indonesia transferred the funds to WFP on 24 September 2025 to support its emergency response programs in Gaza. WFP has long been a partner of Indonesia in delivering humanitarian aid to other countries as well.

“As emphasized by the President at the UN General Assembly, Indonesia remains ready to provide rice assistance to Palestine,” Minister Sugiono added.

He also underlined that channeling aid through WFP ensures that people in Gaza receive healthy and high-quality ready-to-eat meals. Deliveries of food supplies to Palestine currently face not only logistical challenges but also limited storage facilities, while residents are struggling with severe shortages of fuel and clean water.

“Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Palestine remains unwavering. The Government of Indonesia has consistently extended assistance through various available mechanisms and will continue to do so,” the Foreign Minister affirmed, noting that earlier this year Indonesia also provided USD 2 million in humanitarian aid to Palestine through the International Red Cross.
