Indonesia Trusted to Lead the ASEAN Korea Center Tourism and Culture Working Group

ASIATODAY.ID, SEOUL – Indonesia is trusted to lead the ASEAN Korea Center (AKC) Tourism and Culture Working Group, at its first session in 2024 in Seoul, South Korea, 17 January 2024.

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Seoul was appointed as Chair, while the Embassy of the Lao Democratic Republic in Seoul was appointed as Deputy Chair.

Joannes Ekaprasetya Tandjung, Coordinator of the Creative and Digital Economy Function of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Seoul, who is currently leading this group, explained that Indonesia’s leadership will be a mouthpiece for voicing interests related to tourism and culture from ASEAN Committee in Seoul countries to the ASEAN Korea Center. They are also trying to explore broader cooperation based on culture and tourism.

“Indonesia is determined to direct the tourism and cultural sector cooperation strategy between ASEAN member countries and South Korea. It is hoped that superior programs, such as the ASEAN-Korea Culture and Tourism Integrated Experience, will strengthen cooperation in this field,” he said in a written statement, Friday, January 19 2024.

Indonesia’s leadership in the AKC Tourism and Culture Working Group reflects recognition of Indonesia’s crucial role in strengthening cooperation between ASEAN countries and South Korea in the tourism and culture sectors.

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Seoul, as the driving force behind the promotion of Indonesian tourism, culture and creative economy, is determined to advance this collaboration with various activities such as the Colorful North Sulawesi event and Indonesia Night in Daegu.

Through this leadership, it is hoped that it can have a positive impact in supporting economic growth, sustainable development, and strengthening relations between ASEAN and South Korea in the tourism and culture sectors.

In 2023, Indonesia focuses on the theme “ASEAN Matters Epicentrum of Growth” and organizes interesting events such as ASEAN Week 2023, making tourism promotional videos, the ASEAN Digital Library, and the Sustainable Tourism Development Forum.

The 2024 agenda will involve tourism promotion, cultural exchange and other interesting programs. (AT Network)
