ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been well established since 1976 and this relationship plays a big role in the Asian region.
As is known, the United Arab Emirates is Indonesia’s main trade and investment partner in the Middle East Region.
Last year the UAE became Indonesia’s second largest trading partner among Middle Eastern countries, with total trade of $5.06 billion. In addition, the UAE has become one of the main markets for Indonesia, with palm oil being the most important export commodity.
“As Indonesia’s strategic investment partner in the Middle East, cooperation between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates plays an important role in supporting development in Indonesia. “One of the agreements is the Floating Solar Power Plant project at Cirata Reservoir, West Java, which was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on November 9 2023,” said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto at the 52nd National Day Reception of The United Arab Emirates in Jakarta. , Friday, November 24 2023.
Coordinating Minister Airlangga said that this collaboration shows the commitment of both countries in the field of renewable energy. Apart from that, there is still ample room for joint efforts to increase trading volume and maintain trade balance.
Furthermore, the Indonesia-UAE comprehensive economic partnership agreement (IUAE-CEPA) which was signed on July 1 2022 and has been implemented since September 1 2023, is expected to increase exports to the UAE by $4.2 billion and increase imports from the UAE by $4 billion in 2030.
Both countries are committed to establishing stronger and broader cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, trade and investment, defense industry and renewable energy.
“I am also pleased that the United Arab Emirates has been awarded as an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner at the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on 3 August 2022 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where the United Arab Emirates also signed the Agreement of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, “Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia,” said Coordinating Minister Airlangga.
At the global level, the two countries also play an important role in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Furthermore, the OIC Extraordinary Summit was recently held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as a response to the crisis in Gaza, Palestine.
“In closing, let me once again sincerely wish you the best for the celebration of the 52nd National Day of the United Arab Emirates, as we continue to strengthen ties between the two countries in the years to come,” concluded Coordinating Minister Airlangga.
Meanwhile, United Arab Emirates Ambassador Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri praised the bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UAE which have developed into a strategic partnership thanks to the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
“The bilateral relationship between the UAE and Indonesia has developed into a strategic partnership in various sectors; political, economic and commercial, thanks to the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on 1 September 2023,” said Al Dhaheri.
According to Al Dhaheri, the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement/CEPA between Indonesia and the UAE reflects the steadfast leadership of the two countries in strong relations for a sustainable future.
He called the inauguration of the Cirata floating solar power plant in West Java on November 9 2023 a reflection of the strong relationship between Indonesia and the UAE for a sustainable future.
“This also reflects the transition of UAE-Indonesia bilateral cooperation to the empowerment stage, and the completion of projects and plans set for the prosperity of both countries,” he added. (AT Network)
