ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto held a virtual meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday, November 22, 2025. The discussion marked a significant step toward the official launch of the Indonesia–UK Strategic Partnership, scheduled for early 2026.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that both leaders agreed the upcoming strategic partnership would become a new milestone in Indonesia–UK relations.
“Both sides plan to officially launch the Indonesia–UK Strategic Partnership, which is expected to mark a new chapter in bilateral cooperation,” he noted.
Strengthening Maritime Cooperation
Maritime collaboration was one of the central topics discussed. President Prabowo and PM Starmer agreed to strengthen the Maritime Partnership Program, focusing on maritime security cooperation, strategic information sharing, and enhanced law enforcement capacity.
Boosting Economic Growth Partnership
On economic cooperation, the two leaders emphasized accelerating the Economic Growth Partnership.
President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s readiness to expand economic collaboration that supports job creation, investment, and long-term sustainable growth.
“Indonesia is ready to broaden cooperation that drives job creation and sustainable economic development,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy.
UK Support for Education in Indonesia
In the education sector, PM Starmer expressed strong support for expanding the presence of leading UK universities in Indonesia.
He also reaffirmed the UK government’s commitment to providing up to 10,000 scholarships for Indonesian students, a move expected to enhance academic mobility and strengthen human capital development.
Discussion on Gaza and International Stabilisation Efforts
Beyond bilateral issues, President Prabowo and PM Starmer discussed the situation in Gaza. Both leaders highlighted the urgency of establishing an international stabilisation force to protect civilians and ensure uninterrupted humanitarian assistance.
According to Cabinet Secretary Teddy, the virtual meeting serves as a crucial foundation for the upcoming strategic agenda between the two countries.
