ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — The Government of Indonesia has welcomed the first phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, reaffirming its strong support for a permanent cessation of violence between Israel and Hamas. The move is seen as a crucial step toward achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
In an official statement, Indonesia expressed its appreciation for the mediation efforts led by the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, which helped broker the agreement.
The government emphasized the importance of implementing every clause of the ceasefire in good faith and with full commitment to ensure stability in the region.
“Indonesia hopes that humanitarian aid access can be opened widely, and stands ready to actively participate in supporting the reconstruction process in Gaza,” the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Friday, October 10, 2025.
Indonesia also urged the international community to seize this momentum to revive the peace process between Palestine and Israel, based on the Two-State Solution — the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, in accordance with UN resolutions and international law.
Israel Begins Troop Withdrawal from the Gaza Strip
In line with the ceasefire’s implementation, Israel has begun the gradual withdrawal of its troops from the Gaza Strip on Friday, October 10. The Gaza Civil Defense Agency confirmed that Israeli forces have started pulling out from several areas, including Gaza City and Khan Younis in the southern region.
“Israeli forces have withdrawn from several areas in Gaza City,” said Mohammed al-Mughayyir, a senior official with Gaza’s civil defense agency.
Military vehicles were also reported leaving densely populated zones in Khan Younis, marking the first concrete step toward the enforcement of the ceasefire agreement.
Earlier, the Israeli government ratified the ceasefire deal with Hamas following a cabinet security meeting held on Thursday, October 9. According to an Israeli government spokesperson, the ceasefire would take effect within 24 hours, with hostages held in Gaza expected to be released within 72 hours thereafter.
The agreement opens the door for an end to hostilities and humanitarian recovery in Gaza, offering renewed hope for a peaceful resolution and long-term stability in Palestine. (AT Network)
