ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia has opened registration for presidential candidates (capres) and vice presidential candidates (capres) for the 2024 General Election (Pemilu), on Thursday (19/10/2023).
Two candidate pairs, namely the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar pair and the Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD pair have officially registered with the KPU.
Of these two couples, the first registrants were the couple Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar. This pair is supported by a party whose members are the National Democratic Party (Nasdem), National Awakening Party (PKB) and Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).

After that, followed by the pair Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD. This pair was supported by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI), the United Development Party (PPP), the People’s Conscience Party (Hanura) and the Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo).
In accordance with the regulations issued by the KPU, at the 2024 Presidential Election stage, registration of Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate pairs for the 2024 Election will begin from 19 to 25 October 2023.
Meanwhile, there is still one other candidate who has not registered, namely presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto. This candidate was supported by the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), the Golongan Karya Party (Golkar), the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Democratic Party, the Crescent Star Party (PBB) and the People’s Wave Party (Gelora).
So far, Prabowo Subianto has not announced his vice presidential candidate. There are a number of figures mentioned who will accompany him, including Gibran Rakabuming Raka who has the status of Mayor of Surakarta and also the son of the current President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), there is also Erick Thohir who has the status of Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and Prof. Dr. Yusril Ihza Mahendra who has the status of general chairman of the UN and is also an expert in Constitutional Law.
The following are the registration stages for 2024 Presidential-Vice Presidential Candidates
Political Parties or combinations of political parties submit a notification letter to the KPU no later than the day before registration. The notification letter contains the time for registration of presidential and vice presidential candidates.
– Prospective presidential candidates and vice presidential candidates attend the KPU office accompanied by companions from political parties or coalitions of political parties on the specified registration date.
– After registering, the KPU will verify the candidacy requirements and candidate requirements.
– Then proceed with physical and spiritual health checks if all required documents are declared complete. The health examination is planned to be carried out at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital, Jakarta.

Planning for the 2024 Presidential Election is also carried out in two rounds.
The following is the schedule for holding the 2024 Presidential Election if there are two rounds:
Stages and Dates for Round Two:
- Updating voter data and compiling the voter list from March 22 2024 to April 25 2024 will be carried out by the KPU.
- A repeat campaign for participants who continue the contest can be carried out from 2 June 2024 to 22 June 2024, which means this campaign period only lasts 20 days.
- The Second Round of Cooling Period will start on June 23 2024 and will last for the next 3 days.
- The second round of voting for the Presidential Election will be held on June 26 2024, followed by a vote counting process which must be completed within a 1 x 24 hour deadline.
- Vote Recapitulation, the KPU will start the vote recapitulation on June 27 2024 and will complete it until July 20 2024.
- Candidates participating in the contest can submit a request to dispute the election results to the Constitutional Court (MK) if there is dissatisfaction, with the deadline for submitting the request being 3 days after the results are announced by the KPU on 20 July 2024.
- 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Oath/Promises: The second phase of the presidential and vicepresidential oaths or promises will still be held on October 20 2024. (AT Network)
