ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Trade Security Committee (KPPI) has initiated an investigation into Trade Security Measures into the surge in the number of imports of goods in the form of artificial filament yarn.
KPPI sees serious losses or threats of serious losses from the surge in the number of imports of goods in the form of artificial filament yarn.
The commodities in question include five 8-digit Harmonized System (HS) numbers, namely 5403.10.00, 5403.31.10, 5403.31.90, 5403.32.90, and 5403.41.90 based on the 2022 Indonesian Customs Tariff Book (BTKI).
The investigation was based on a request from the Indonesian Textile Association (API), which represents the domestic artificial filament yarn producing industry.
KPPI received the application from API on September 18 2023.
“From the initial evidence of the official application submitted by API, KPPI found that there was a surge in the number of imports of artificial filament yarn. KPPI also found initial indications of serious losses or threats of serious losses experienced by the domestic industry as a result of the surge in the number of imports of artificial filament yarn,” said Acting Chair of KPPI Nugraheni Prasetya Hastuti in a written statement, Saturday (28/10/2023).
Nugraheni said that serious losses or threats of serious losses can be seen from several performance indicators of domestic industry in 2020-2022.
“These indicators are a continuous decline in profits due to a decline in production volume, domestic sales, productivity, used capacity and labor, as well as a decline in API market share in the domestic market,” explained Nugraheni.
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in the last three years (2020-2022), there has been an increase in the number of imports of artificial filament yarn with a trend of 49.89 percent.
In 2020, the amount of imports was 1,191 tons. In 2021, imports will increase 51.48 percent to 1,804 tons. Then, in 2022 imports will increase 48.32 percent to 2,676 tons.
The country of origin for imports of artificial filament yarn is China at 98.29 percent and other countries at 1.71 of the total imports.
KPPI invites all interested parties to register as Interested Parties no later than 15 days from the date of this announcement.
