ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian government is investing IDR 1 trillion to build the largest telecommunications equipment testing laboratory in Southeast Asia.
The laboratory is called the Indonesia Digital Test House (IDTH).
The Indonesian Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, said that laboratories have a very important role in life, including in terms of telecommunications equipment.
“Later this IDTH will be inaugurated by President Jokowi in the not too distant future,” said Budi, Thursday, May 2 2024.
According to Budi, IDTH’s existence as a testing laboratory is not only responsible for ensuring that telecommunications tools and equipment meet high security and quality standards, but also ensures the harmony needed to build a strong and sustainable digital ecosystem.
For this reason, before telecommunication equipment is marketed, Budi emphasized that every device must go through a certification test process at IDTH. This indicates that the product is safe from radiation and other disturbances, and is suitable for public use. One of the facilities available at IDTH is the SAR & EMF Laboratory.
This laboratory can carry out tests to measure the level of non-ionizing radiation from electromagnetic wave emissions produced by ICT devices attached to the human body, such as smartphones and tablet PCs. The cellphone radiation test takes 1 full day and depends on the type of device being tested.
“This radiation test is carried out so that it is safe for the public to use,” he explained.
For your information, IDTH was built in Tapos Depok, West Java on an area of 22,723 m2 with a building area of 11,953 m2.
This facility is equipped with the latest technology operated by competent professionals in the field of testing and calibration using international methods and standards.
Budi added that IDTH can be used to develop digital IT talent, one of which is collaborating with universities as a learning tool such as conducting research or doing internships.
This laboratory is also able to accommodate 5,000 tests per year by applying the principles of protect, gate and spectrum management.
“In the future, IDTH will not only function as a testing and calibration laboratory, but also become a new center of excellence in Indonesia’s digital ecosystem,” he said.
Budi said that at IDTH there are 12 laboratories, including the EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Laboratory, SAR & EMF Laboratory, Electrical Safety Laboratory, and Cellular Laboratory.
Then, High Power Radio Laboratory, Low Power Radio Laboratory, Laser and Optics Laboratory, Broadcast Laboratory, RF Calibration Laboratory, Antenna Calibration Laboratory.
IDTH is also equipped with an Optical Calibration Laboratory and an Electrical Calibration Laboratory. (ATN)
