ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – SM+, a Sinar Mas-backed digital infrastructure and services company, alongside its joint venture partner, Korea Investment Real Asset Management (KIRA), today unveiled the groundbreaking of SMX01, an AI-ready and connectivity-rich data center in Jakarta’s Central Business District.

The state-of-the-art facility represents an investment of over US$300 million and is developed in collaboration with LG Sinar Mas as the technology advisor and operator, leveraging its team’s experience in operating and developing over 600 MW of total data center capacity in Korea.

Scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2026, SMX01 aims to address the rising demand for digital infrastructure across Southeast Asia, where the digital economy is projected to reach US$1 trillion by 2030.

Spanning nearly 15,500 square meters of data hall white space, SMX01 features a data center that is designed to meet diverse customer needs, ranging from emerging enterprises to global hyperscalers. With a robust infrastructure supporting nearly 2,400 racks across nine data halls, SMX01 offers a high degree of scalability.

Each data hall is capable of accommodating up to 340 racks and is customizable to cater to a wide range of data center demands, including enterprise colocation, high-density hyperscale deployments, and emerging workloads such as AI and machine learning applications.

SMX01 is poised to establish Indonesia as a pivotal hub for technology transformation and innovation in Southeast Asia and will be equipped with features that support the substantial power needs of high-performance computing.

With an initial IT load capacity of 18 MW, which is upgradable to 60 MW, SMX01 will feature:
– Support for high-density racks of up to 130 KW
– Latest air-cooling technology and on-demand advanced liquid-cooling systems
– Multiple carrier options from Indonesia’s leading internet providers via multiple fiber entry paths

This flagship data center embraces sustainability through energy-efficient design and low Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), while ensuring advanced security through multiple protective layers adhering to global standards. SMX01 will be built to Tier IV standards and is expected to achieve “green building” certification.

“This new flagship data center reflects our commitment to deliver secure and scalable digital infrastructure that connects Indonesia’s thriving market with the global digital ecosystem,” stated Herson Suindah, President Director & CEO of SM+.

“With SMX01, alongside our expansive network of 24 interconnected edge data centers across Indonesia, we enable advanced technology deployment, reduce latency for end-users, accelerate market entry for global businesses, and support distributed AI workloads. As Indonesia’s digital economy continues to grow, we are proud to establish the foundation necessary to support this expansion together with our partners.”

Yong Sik Kim, CEO of KIRA added, “We are excited to collaborate with SM+ and LG Sinar Mas on this flagship data center project. Our investment in SMX01 underscores our confidence in the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy.”

Han Dong Hyup, CEO of LG Sinar Mas, remarked, “Our collaboration with SM+ and KIRA in the SMX01 project represents a significant milestone in advancing Indonesia’s digital infrastructure.
