ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s capital market has marked a historic milestone, with the total number of investors officially surpassing 20 million, reaching 20,042,365 Single Investor Identification (SID) accounts as of Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

This represents a sharp 34.8% increase, or an additional 5,170,726 SID, compared to the end of 2024, when investor numbers stood at 14,871,639.

Equity investors also recorded strong growth, rising to 8,461,938 SID, up 32.6% or 2,080,494 investors from 6,381,444 at the end of 2024. The achievement reflects growing public confidence in Indonesia’s capital market, alongside the sustained success of national financial literacy and inclusion initiatives.

Jeffrey Hendrik, Director of Development at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), said the surge in investor participation underscores the effectiveness of the Exchange’s literacy, inclusion, activation, and digital education strategies.

“We are seeing investment interest become increasingly inclusive and evenly distributed, as access to capital market education is now available to communities across Indonesia,” Jeffrey said on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

This milestone has been supported by IDX’s nationwide education network, comprising nearly 1,000 IDX Investment Galleries and 29 IDX Representative Offices, working in close coordination with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Self-Regulatory Organizations, and other capital market stakeholders.

The widespread infrastructure has ensured that financial literacy and access to investing opportunities are no longer concentrated in major cities but have expanded to regions across the country.

From January to November 2025, IDX and its Investment Galleries organized 59,037 literacy, inclusion, and activation programs, attracting 29,033,262 participants.

These initiatives included Capital Market School programs, advanced training levels, exchange visits, workshops, trading simulations, and the continuous distribution of digital content throughout the year.

The impact of education has been further amplified by the Capital Market Ambassador program. In 2025, 3,650 ambassadors were actively involved, building on the contribution of more than 6,000 ambassadors in the previous year.

As grassroots literacy champions, they played a key role in organizing educational activities and encouraging university students to open securities accounts.

The rapid growth in investor numbers coincided with a series of record-breaking achievements in Indonesia’s capital market throughout 2025.

On December 8, 2025, both the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI/IHSG) and market capitalization reached all-time highs, with the index closing at 8,710.695 and total market capitalization hitting IDR 16,004 trillion.

Alongside rising investor participation, trading activity also surged, placing IDX among the world’s “billion-dollar exchanges”—a group of global bourses with average daily transaction values exceeding USD 1 billion.

“This achievement positions Indonesia alongside leading global exchanges and demonstrates the deepening strength of its capital market,” Jeffrey added.

As of the close of trading on Monday (December 15), IDX market capitalization stood at IDR 15,787 trillion (approximately USD 947 billion), while average daily trading value reached IDR 17.67 trillion, or around USD 1.07 billion.

These figures highlight not only the rapid expansion of Indonesia’s investor base, but also rising market liquidity, growing appeal to global investors, and the resilience of domestic investors amid global economic volatility.

With investor numbers surging, liquidity strengthening, and historic records being set, Indonesia’s capital market is increasingly positioning itself as a key driver of national economic growth and an emerging force in the global financial landscape. (AT Network)
