ASIATODAY.ID, BERLIN – The partnership between the Provincial Government of Jakarta and the City of Berlin has entered a new and increasingly strategic phase.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung held a high-level meeting with the leadership of GIZ (German Corporation for International Cooperation) and representatives of BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) at Rotes Rathaus, Berlin, on Monday, November 24, 2025.

The meeting underscored Jakarta’s growing role as a global city that actively builds international networks to accelerate smart-city transformation and sustainable mobility.

During the discussion, Governor Pramono expressed his appreciation for the support of the German Government and the European Union (EU) through various capacity-building initiatives, including the Smart Change program—one of the key milestones in Jakarta’s digital governance transformation.

“Our partnership with Berlin through GIZ is not merely an administrative cooperation. It is a joint effort to push the boundaries of innovation so that cities become more humane, inclusive, and efficient,” Pramono emphasized.

Jakarta Future City Hub Driving Urban Transformation

A central topic of the meeting was the strengthening of the Jakarta Future City Hub, a collaborative platform that brings together government institutions, startups, academia, and civil society to advance data-driven innovation. The initiative has produced significant results: 40 policy recommendations, support for 89 startups, capacity-building for 24 incubation institutions, and engagement of more than 15,800 participants across various public innovation programs.

“The Jakarta Future City Hub is a long-term foundation for the city’s digital transformation. We are committed to ensuring that the Hub continues to grow as a dynamic space for policy experimentation,” Pramono said.

Deepening Cooperation on Green Mobility

Beyond digital transformation, the dialogue also explored expanded cooperation in green mobility. Jakarta has set an ambitious target: deploying 10,000 electric buses by 2030.

The city is opening new opportunities for collaboration in research, pilot projects, and the application of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve fleet management and public transport planning.

“There is strong potential in digitizing TransJakarta, implementing Mobility as a Service, and integrating multimodal data. The future of mobility must be more accessible, more comfortable, and more environmentally responsible,” he added.

A Model for Future Global Cities

Governor Pramono stressed that the Jakarta–Berlin partnership can serve as a global example of how major metropolitan areas respond to urbanization challenges through innovation, sustainability, and international collaboration.

“The journey ahead is long. With vision and courage, this partnership will not only help Jakarta overcome its urban challenges but also inspire cities across Asia and beyond,” Pramono concluded. (AT Network)
