ASIATODAY.ID, BERLIN — The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, held a high-level bilateral meeting with Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, at the historic Rotes Rathaus on Monday, November 24, 2025.
The warm and constructive dialogue reinforced the growing partnership between the two capitals, with a strong focus on green mobility, smart governance, and the creative economy.
Governor Pramono emphasized that Jakarta has entered a big leap phase of urban development. Through increasingly active city diplomacy, Jakarta is positioning itself as one of the most influential metropolitan hubs in the region.
Through its strategic partnership with Berlin, Jakarta is further solidifying its status as a leading urban center in Southeast Asia. This collaboration not only accelerates Jakarta’s transformation in green mobility and smart governance, but also places the city alongside global urban leaders known for innovation and sustainable development.
“Berlin’s expertise in civic engagement and smart governance is invaluable to us. It strengthens our efforts to build a government that is more transparent, open, and responsive to its citizens,” Pramono stated.
Green Mobility as a Central Priority
During the meeting, the Berlin administration shared its vast experience in integrating public transportation modes, expanding multimodal networks, and implementing Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). These practices closely align with Jakarta’s priorities, which include expanding the MRT network, improving intermodal connectivity, and creating pedestrian-friendly urban spaces.
“Our goal is to build a humane city—one that truly serves its people. Learning from Berlin’s best practices helps us accelerate that transformation,” Pramono said.
The Jakarta–Berlin partnership also advances cooperation in the creative economy and urban innovation. One of the flagship initiatives is the development of the Jakarta Future City Hub, a collaborative space inspired by Berlin’s renowned creative ecosystem.
The hub is designed to support young talents, innovators, and startups in building new ideas, scaling creative ventures, and strengthening Jakarta’s innovation-driven economy.
“The city of the future is one that empowers creativity, innovation, and the courage of its young generation. Our partnership with Berlin strengthens that foundation,” Pramono added.
Aiming for the Top 50 Global Cities by 2030
The meeting also reaffirmed Jakarta’s ambition to join the Top 50 Global Cities by 2030 and the Top 20 by 2045. To reinforce long-term cooperation, Governor Pramono officially invited Mayor Wegner to attend Jakarta’s 500th Anniversary Celebration in 2027, symbolizing the enduring friendship and strategic collaboration between the two cities.
With shared commitments in green mobility, smart governance, and the creative economy, the Jakarta–Berlin partnership marks a significant milestone in Jakarta’s journey toward becoming an inclusive, modern, and sustainable global city. (AT Network)
