ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Jakarta’s public transportation system continues to advance rapidly.
President Prabowo Subianto on November 4, 2025 inaugurated the New Tanah Abang Station, marking a milestone in Indonesia’s modernization of urban mobility through smart, integrated infrastructure.
In his remarks, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a safe, affordable, and inclusive public transport network that supports national productivity and equitable economic growth.
“Railways and all forms of mass transit are vital components of a modern society. I’ve received reports that Indonesian Railways has transported 486 million passengers in just one year—a remarkable achievement for our public transport system,” President Prabowo stated.
The New Tanah Abang Station: A Symbol of Urban Modernization
Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwaghandi explained that the New Tanah Abang Station is now one of the busiest and largest in the Greater Jakarta area. Since its phased opening in June 2025, the station has served five key routes: Kampung Bandan, Rangkasbitung, Duri, Tangerang, and Cikarang.
“With its passenger capacity expanded from 141,000 to 380,000 per day, this station is expected to set a new benchmark for public service efficiency and comfort,” Minister Dudy said.
Designed with a futuristic urban architectural concept, the new station forms part of a major revitalization initiative by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI). This project aligns with the government’s vision of strengthening intermodal connectivity and promoting eco-friendly urban transport.
Farmers’ and Traders’ Train: A Step Toward Economic Justice
In a separate event, President Prabowo also inspected a new dedicated train service for farmers and small traders at Manggarai Station. This innovative initiative reflects the government’s commitment to economic equity and strengthening agricultural supply chains.
The train is designed to carry both passengers and agricultural goods—such as vegetables, fruits, and other produce—without additional cargo costs.
“I personally checked. The passengers only pay for their seats, while their goods are transported for free,” the President said.
This initiative represents a concrete step by the government to support small-scale producers through affordable logistics. The route will connect Rangkasbitung, Serang, and Merak, linking rural farming centers with major urban markets.
By cutting transport costs and ensuring product freshness, the service aims to strengthen food resilience and improve the livelihoods of local producers.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to National Transport Development
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani emphasized that the government remains fully engaged in the development of national public transportation, including the Whoosh high-speed rail project.
“Public transport serves the wider public interest. The government’s role is not merely about profit but ensuring accessibility and social benefits for the people,” Rosan said following a meeting with President Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace.
With the inauguration of the New Tanah Abang Station and the launch of the farmers’ and traders’ train, President Prabowo’s administration signals a new era of inclusive infrastructure — merging technological progress, efficiency, and social justice to ensure that modernization truly benefits all Indonesians.
