ASIATODAY.ID, TOKYO – Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Japan Heri Akhmadi asked the Japanese parliament to support efforts to guide and protect Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) who are  throughout Japan.

“The number of Indonesian workers in Japan is currently continuing to increase.

“Related to that, of course I hope that cooperation between parliaments and the governments of the two countries in the field of employment can be further improved in supporting efforts to guide and protect Indonesian migrant workers in Japan,” said Heri in his statement in Tokyo, Saturday, June 15 2024.

Heri conveyed this when accompanying the Chairman of the Bilateral Cooperation Group (GKSB) of the Indonesian-Japanese Parliament, Puti Guntur Sukarno, to meet with the Chairman of the Indonesian-Japanese Parliamentary League, Toshihiro Nikai.

The number of Indonesian citizens in Japan by the end of 2023 has reached 149,101 people, a double increase from the previous year.

Heri also previously said that the increase in the number of Indonesian citizens and the accompanying cases were a challenge for the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian-Japanese Parliamentary GKSB, Puti Guntur Sukarno, reaffirmed the joint commitment between the parliaments of the two countries in increasing cooperation in various fields.

“As chairman of GKSB, I will continue to strengthen communication with partners from the Japanese parliament to strengthen Indonesia-Japan relations, including through strengthening people-to-people contacts,” said Puti.

On this occasion, Puti also invited Toshihiro Nikai and the parliamentary cooperation group from Japan to visit Indonesia.

Apart from cooperation in strengthening relations between citizens, Puti also sees the potential for cooperation in the education and employment sectors through cooperation in the field of vocational education.

Responding to this, Chairman of the Indonesian-Japan Parliamentary League Toshihiro Nikai welcomed efforts to increase cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.

Toshihiro Nikai also expressed his desire to visit Indonesia in the near future. (AT Network)
