ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Defense relations between Indonesia and Japan continue to deepen significantly.
The Secretary General of Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense, Lt. Gen. Tri Budi Utomo, received a courtesy call from the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Mitsuru Myochin, at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Jakarta on Friday, December 12, 2025.
The meeting marked an important step in strengthening bilateral defense cooperation between Indonesia and Japan, which has developed steadily in recent years.
The Secretary General was accompanied by the Director General of Defense Strategy and the Secretary of the Directorate General of Defense Force Development of the Ministry of Defense.
Discussions focused on the progress of ongoing cooperation programs, including the implementation of Official Security Assistance (OSA) provided by the Government of Japan.
The OSA framework is aimed at supporting the enhancement of Indonesia’s defense capabilities, in line with the country’s efforts to modernize its defense systems and improve overall readiness.
Beyond OSA, both sides also reviewed a range of initiatives, such as the strengthening of strategic dialogue, the expansion of operational activities and joint exercises, the development of defense information exchange, and opportunities to broaden personnel exchanges and military education cooperation.
The meeting further underscored the importance of establishing a more comprehensive and sustainable defense cooperation framework to ensure long-term, mutually beneficial collaboration between Jakarta and Tokyo.
The growing synergy between Indonesia and Japan is expected not only to reinforce Indonesia’s national defense capabilities but also to contribute meaningfully to regional stability and security, particularly amid evolving geopolitical dynamics in the region. (AT Network)
