ASIATODAY.ID, KUALA LUMPUR – Multinational company from the United States (US) Microsoft has increased its investment in Malaysia by US$2.2 billion.
“Received a courtesy visit from Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella and a delegation in Putrajaya today. “Satya informed that Microsoft has agreed to increase investment by US$ 2.2 billion in the next four years,” said Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in a written statement, Thursday.
This amount, according to Anwar, is the largest investment Microsoft has ever made after being established for 32 years in Malaysia.
The investment includes the development of cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) systems and infrastructure, the creation of AI skills opportunities for an additional 300,000 people, the establishment of a National AI Center of Excellence, enhancing national cybersecurity capabilities, and supporting the growth of the systems developer community in Malaysia.
Anwar said Malaysia welcomed the investment decision which proved their confidence in the country’s strong economic base, clear and focused policies, in addition to investor friendliness and political stability.
According to Anwar, the investment is in line with and will be a major support for the Malaysian Government’s focus on developing AI capacity in the country.
The two of them attended the National AI Leadership Forum and held a dialogue on matters touching on AI technology and the government’s plans to prepare the country to face current changes.
“Hopefully this collaboration between Malaysia and Microsoft can bring significant benefits to the country and society as a whole,” said Anwar. (AT Network)
