ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Bilateral relations between China and Indonesia are now entering a new era. The President of China, Xi Jinping and the elected President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
President Xi Jinping hopes that relations between China and Indonesia can become closer under Prabowo Subianto’s leadership.
“World change has accelerated in the last century. China wants to maintain close relations with Indonesia and strengthen cooperation in the future,” said President Xi Jinping in an official statement as published on the Chinese state media website on Monday.
The meeting between Xi Jingping and Prabowo Subianto took place at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing on Monday and was also attended by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
President Xi Jinping invited Prabowo Subianto as Minister of Defense and President-elect of Indonesia to pay an official visit to China on 31 March – 2 April 2024. Prabowo’s visit to China was his first foreign visit as president-elect.
“China and Indonesia must actively practice the ‘Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence’, continue the spirit of unity, friendship and cooperation as in the Bandung agreement, promote equal world multipolarity and inclusive economic globalization,” added President Xi Jinping.
President Xi Jinping also hopes that Indonesia, during Prabowo Subianto’s leadership, can strengthen multilateral collaboration and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.
“China wants to work with Indonesia to maintain the unity and centrality of ASEAN, maintain an inclusive regional architecture, and build a China-ASEAN community with a closer shared future,” the statement said.
The “Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence” consists of five principles, namely mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-aggression, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, maintaining equality and mutually beneficial relationships, and peaceful coexistence.
Meanwhile, Prabowo Subianto at the meeting expressed his joy at making China the first country he visited after being elected president.
“China is a big country with important influence,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo in the statement said that Indonesia and China always respect and treat each other as equals.
“I really admire the achievements of the Chinese people under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, and I want to learn from the experience of the Chinese Communist Party and deepen the exchange of understanding in governance,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo said China is a big partner for Indonesia’s cooperation. In recent years, Chinese companies have actively participated in the economy and helped Indonesia’s national development.
“I fully support closer relations between Indonesia and China. I am willing to continue President Joko Widodo’s policy towards China by adhering to the independence and ‘One China’ policy that the Indonesian government has always promoted,” added Prabowo.
Prabowo is said to support the main interests of both Indonesia and China to encourage more comprehensive relations between the two countries and build a community with a shared future for both countries.
“The new Indonesian government is willing to actively encourage the development strategies of the two countries, cooperation in various fields including economy, trade and poverty alleviation,” said Prabowo.
During the meeting, the current condition of Palestine was also discussed.
“I appreciate China’s role regarding international issues, especially the issue of Palestine. Indonesia is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China on international and regional issues and contribute more to South-South cooperation,” said Prabowo. (AT Network)
