ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Bali is a favorite destination for Chinese tourists to celebrate Chinese New Year. This was revealed from Airbnb China search data from January 1, 2023 to September 30, 2023.
The search covers stay periods abroad during the winter with check-in dates between December 22, 2023 to February 29, 2024.
Airbnb released information regarding significant changes in Chinese tourists’ interest in visiting international destinations after travel restrictions were lifted. This increase in interest can be seen during the Christmas holidays, end of year, school holidays and the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.
Of the ten most searched countries during the winter period, Indonesia was ranked seventh, with Bali as the most popular destination.
Thailand is in first place, followed by Japan, New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Malaysia in third to sixth positions. Indonesia is in seventh place, followed by England, Norway and South Korea in eighth to ninth place.
Regarding tourist destinations in Southeast Asia, Chinese tourists tend to travel before or during Chinese New Year celebrations, with a peak increase of 14 times compared to the previous year, especially during the check-in period 8 – 18 February 2024.
They prefer to travel in groups or with family. More specific data shows that Bali is ranked fourth with the highest search volume during winter among the top 20 cities.
