ASIATODAY.ID, PALEMBANG – Pagar Alam City, South Sumatra Province made its first export of 19.8 tons of coffee beans to Malaysia, on Tuesday, September 17 2024. The export was carried out via Palembang’s Boom Baru Port.
The Head of South Sumatra Quarantine, Kostan Manalu, emphasized that the exported coffee beans are guaranteed to be free from Quarantine Plant Pest Organisms. Apart from that, this first export is an important step for the introduction of robusta coffee beans from Pagar Alam in the Malaysian market.
“This coffee export further strengthens South Sumatra’s position as one of the leading coffee producers on the international market,” he said in a written statement.
Apart from exports to Malaysia, in 2024 South Sumatra will also send samples of 0.5 kilograms of coffee beans to Germany. Then in 2023, 4 kilograms of coffee beans were sent to England, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and 60 kilograms of ground coffee were exported to Malaysia and Jordan. Meanwhile, in 2022, the region will succeed in exporting 11.9 kilograms of coffee beans to Japan, Poland and Taiwan.
“There is a tendency for coffee from South Sumatra to be sought after by the international market. “The Quarantine Center is ready to provide full support to farmers and exporters through assistance in fulfilling requirements so that coffee quality is maintained,” he concluded. (AT Network)
