ASIATODAY.ID, WASHINGTON – The United States (US) is starting to be wary of the alliance between Russia and North Korea.
“It’s not surprising that they developed and fostered this relationship. So, this is something that we will take seriously, and this is something that we will continue to monitor,” Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters Thursday.
The US focus in the Indo-Pacific region is working with countries that share similar views on security and stability throughout the world, including the Indo-Pacific region, Ryder said.
Regarding the latest agreement between Russia and North Korea, in which they pledged to provide each other with military assistance “without delay” if either was attacked by a third country, the spokesman said he would not discuss “in detail” any agreement between Moscow and Pyongyang .
“What you saw in the past was the DPRK providing Russia with ammunition that was used in Ukraine, to kill Ukrainians and support Russia’s illegal war.”
“So, once again, this is clearly worrying for all countries that respect sovereignty, and respect the rule of law,” he added.
While stressing that Russia would need to ally with North Korea to conquer the Ukrainian people, Ryder said: “And the fact that they have to go to a country like the DPRK to get ammunition shows how isolated Russia is right now.”
Asked whether the US was taking Russian President Vladimir Putin’s consideration of changing Russia’s nuclear doctrine “seriously,” Ryder said: “We haven’t seen anything that would require us to change our own strategic force posture.”
“Again, this is not the first time we have heard such reckless nuclear threats. It is certainly irresponsible for countries with such capabilities to make such comments,” he added.
During his visit to Vietnam, Putin said that Russian authorities were considering changes to nuclear doctrine because “adversaries” had lowered the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons. (AT Network)
