ASIATODAY.ID, MOSCOW – The United States is becoming increasingly vulnerable as China continues to rapidly expand its military capabilities, according to the Pentagon’s 2025 Report to Congress on Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China.
The report states that China’s historic military buildup has significantly heightened the risks to US national security, including direct threats to American territory.
“China possesses and continues to develop substantial nuclear, maritime, conventional long-range strike, cyber, and space capabilities capable of directly threatening US security,” the Pentagon said in the report released Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
According to the assessment, China’s military has made steady progress toward its 2027 strategic objectives, which include achieving a decisive strategic victory over Taiwan, establishing strategic parity with the United States in nuclear and other advanced domains, and strengthening strategic deterrence and control against regional competitors.
The Pentagon also revealed that China’s armed forces conducted large-scale exercises in 2024 simulating naval invasions, missile strikes, and potential blockades. These operations reportedly extended as far as 1,500 to 2,000 nautical miles from China’s coastline.
The report warned that, if executed at scale, such operations could seriously challenge and disrupt US military presence in and around a potential conflict zone in the Asia-Pacific region.
Previously, in November, Liu Pengyu, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, told Politico that China remains open to deeper military engagement with the United States on an equal footing—provided Washington honors its commitment not to contain China or provoke confrontation. (Sputnik)
