ASIATODAY.ID, BANGKOK — PT Pertamina (Persero), through its subsidiary Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), has entered into a strategic partnership with Singapore LNG Corporation to develop Bio-LNG energy.
The collaboration was formalized through the signing of an agreement between Pertamina NRE President Director John Anis and Singapore LNG Corporation CEO Leong Wei Hung during a bilateral meeting at the 50th ASCOPE Council Meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand, on October 1, 2025.
Pertamina NRE President Director John Anis emphasized that the signing represents the Pertamina Group’s commitment to advancing bioenergy development. With Singapore’s strong market position and Indonesia’s abundant natural resources, the partnership is expected to bring mutual benefits for both countries.
“This is an excellent collaboration that combines the strengths of Pertamina NRE and Singapore LNG. Singapore LNG has a robust market presence, while we have the resources to produce biofuel, biogas, and Bio-LNG. This signing marks only the beginning, and Pertamina is committed to realizing this project,” said John Anis after the signing ceremony in Bangkok.
As a follow-up to this agreement, Pertamina NRE will soon conduct a technical study to convert Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) into Biogas/Bio-LNG. The next phase will involve the construction of a processing plant to enable the delivery of the energy to Singapore LNG.
“The LNG will be produced in Indonesia by converting palm oil waste into clean, green energy. It will then be supplied to Singapore, potentially via a pipeline from Sumatra or through shipping,” John explained.
John expressed his optimism that the partnership would enable Pertamina to take part in this international initiative, generating both financial returns and valuable global experience in energy marketing through Singapore LNG’s network.
“Pertamina will also utilize carbon credits generated from this project. Once operations are up and running successfully, the next goal is to obtain international certification so that the product gains global recognition and higher value credibility,” he added.
Pertamina NRE’s expansion into Singapore is part of Pertamina’s broader strategy to strengthen its expertise in green energy. Through global collaboration, Pertamina aims to replicate and scale similar sustainable energy projects domestically, maximizing the benefits of eco-friendly fuels for the Indonesian people.
As Indonesia’s leading energy transition company, Pertamina is firmly committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by advancing initiatives that directly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
All these efforts align with the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across Pertamina’s business and operational lines. (AT Network)
