ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia revealed that the initial potential oil content of the Buton Field off the coast of Southeast Sulawesi reached more than 1 billion barrels of oil.
Currently, the field prospects are being studied by PT Pertamina (Persero) together with Petrochina and Petronas through the Joint Study Area (JSA) program.
Acting Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dadan Kusdiana, said that his ministry would speed up the completion of the JSA to continue developing the field.
“The efforts we are making now are to speed up the completion of the joint study so that later the area can immediately be made a direct offer and developed,” said Dadan in a press release, quoted Tuesday, July 23 2024.
The field is part of exploration in the Eastern region carried out by the Special Oil and Gas Task Force Team (SKK Migas) in 2022. Apart from Buton, a number of prospects being studied include the Seram, Aru, Timor and Warim Basins.
Based on data collected by SKK Migas as of January 1 2022, there are dozens of basins with potential oil resources reaching 23.6 BBO and gas reaching 271.4 Tcf that have not been explored. On the other hand, condensate potential is projected to reach 955.17 MMSTB and resources associated with gas are 53.12 Bscf.
Meanwhile, three potential basins with high oil content include South Sumatra (3.5 BBO), North Sumatra (2.7 BBO), and East Java (2.7 BBO). Meanwhile, there are three potential basins with high gas content spread across Bintuni (72.7 Tcf), North Sumatra (51.3 Tcf), and Aru-Tanimbar (23.7 Tcf). (AT Network)
