ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence have just released the 2023 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) report on Wednesday, June 5 2024.

In the report, Indonesia’s Tanjung Priok port is included in the list of best performing container ports throughout 2023. However, it is still below Malaysia and Singapore in the Southeast Asia or ASEAN region.

The 2023 CPPI report noted that Tanjung Priok was ranked 23rd out of a total of 405 ports assessed. This record has shot up compared to the same report in 2022. At that time, Tanjung Priok was ranked 281st out of a total of 348 ports on the list.

For information, the CPPI report assesses the performance of 405 global container ports based on efficiency, with a focus on the length of time container ships are at the port. The main aim of the report is to identify areas that need improvement for the benefit of various stakeholders in the global trading system and supply chains, from ports to shipping companies, national governments and consumers.

Meanwhile, Tanjung Priok’s performance was the third best in the Southeast Asia region. Tanjung Priok is only behind the Port of Tanjung Ppanjang, Malaysia in 5th place globally and the Port of Singapore in 17th place.

Apart from Tanjung Priok, there are three other Indonesian ports that are included in the 2023 CPPI list. Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya, is observed to be in 101st place, down 4 places from its performance in 2022 and then 97th. Furthermore, Semarang’s Tanjung Emas Port is in 150th place, or down from the previous year’s performance at 132nd. Then, Medan’s Belawan Port also dropped from 214th to 308th in 2023. (ATN)
