ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia will continue the accession process to become a member of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) after previously Indonesia officially became a full member of BRICS.
Prabowo said that currently the transition to Indonesia’s full membership in the BRICS alliance is underway, where the organization consists of nine member countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
“It has been stated that we are accepted into BRICS. The transition process is currently underway,” said Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, February 17 2025.
According to Prabowo, Indonesia’s membership accession to join the OECD continues to be carried out as an effort to ensure that Indonesia does not side with any group or is non-aligned.
President Prabowo is also committed to Indonesia completing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with various countries so that trade import duties can be eliminated or reduced.
“We are also continuing our registration with the OECD, and we also want to quickly complete the Indonesia-European Union CEPA cooperation as well,” said Prabowo.
On the previous occasion at the 2025 World Governments Summit, President Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s desire to join as a full member of the OECD and other world economic cooperation forums, such as the CPTPP and the Indo-Pacific Forum.
It is believed that these cooperation forums promote the spirit of equal dialogue and avoid any hostility.
For President Prabowo, Indonesia’s attitude is a reflection of Indonesia’s free and active politics which does not side with any particular powerful group, including groups led by the United States or China. (AT Network)
