Prabowo and Macron Meeting Yields 21 Strategic Indonesia–France Cooperation Agreements

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – A landmark bilateral meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, May 28, 2025 resulted in the signing of 21 strategic cooperation agreements spanning government-to-government, institution-to-institution, business partnerships, and central bank cooperation.

The high-level dialogue opened with a joint declaration, signaling a long-term commitment to strengthening the Indonesia–France strategic partnership through to 2050. The agreements highlight collaboration across multiple sectors, including diplomacy, defense, energy, culture, and innovation.

10 Government-to-Government (G-to-G) Agreements

Signed agreements between ministries include:

1. Diplomatic Capacity Building – Between Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and France’s Minister of Francophonie and International Partnerships.

2. Defense Information Protection – On exchanging and safeguarding classified information.

3. Strategic Defense Cooperation – To strengthen bilateral military interoperability.

4. Agricultural Cooperation – Enhancing innovation and food security.

5. Critical Minerals and Metals – Supporting nickel downstream processing and EV battery supply chains.

6. Sustainable Forestry – Focused on conservation and carbon trading.

7. Creative Economy Development – Fostering Indonesia’s creative industries and digital startups.

8. Cultural Collaboration – Promoting cultural diplomacy and heritage exchange.

9. Disaster Risk Management – Enhancing mitigation and emergency response strategies.

10. Transport Infrastructure Cooperation – Advancing public transportation systems and mobility technology.

P-to-P Agreement: Equestrian Ecosystem Development

A key institution-to-institution agreement was signed between PORDASI and leading French equestrian organizations including IFCE, FFE, France Galop, and AFASEC, aimed at building an international-standard equestrian sports ecosystem in Indonesia.

5 Strategic Public-Private Partnerships (B-to-B)

1. National Nutrition Partnership – Between the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and Danone, to promote healthier future generations.

2. EV Mineral Supply Chain – Collaboration between Danantara, INA, and Eramet to develop nickel downstream processing for electric vehicle (EV) ecosystems.

3. Renewable Energy Investment – A partnership between RGE and TotalEnergies to develop solar power and battery energy storage systems.

4. Yeast Production Expansion – Between Citra Bonang and Lesaffre to enhance food supply chain resilience.

5. Green Hydrogen Project – Joint development by PT SMI, PLN, and HDF in Eastern Indonesia, supporting clean energy transition and financing.

Central Bank Cooperation: BI & Banque de France

As part of the official deliverables, Bank Indonesia (BI) and Banque de France also announced a strategic central bank collaboration, focusing on monetary policy coordination and cross-border payment systems.

The historic Prabowo–Macron bilateral meeting underscores a new era of the Indonesia–France strategic partnership. With 21 comprehensive agreements across key sectors, the cooperation is expected to accelerate economic growth, energy transition, cultural diplomacy, and sustainable innovation in both countries.
