Prabowo Chairs the 17th ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto opened and at the same time chaired the 17th ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Senayan, Wednesday, 15 November 2023.

The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia automatically received the relay for Chairmanship of The 17th ADMM and The 10th ADMM-Plus.

Referring to the theme of Indonesia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN 2023: “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia set the theme for Indonesia’s Chairmanship in ADMM 2023 to be “Peace, Prosperity, and Security.”

Peace, prosperity and security are closely related and constitute a strong foundation for regional stability. Therefore, through cooperation in ADMM, Indonesia is committed to promoting dialogue and cooperation in matters of defense and security to achieve common goals.

At the beginning of his speech, Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto as Chair of the 17th ADMM expressed his gratitude for the presence of the Ministers of Defense of ASEAN Countries and the Secretary General of ASEAN at the 17th ADMM event.

Timor Leste also attended this meeting as an observer, represented by the Minister of Defense Prof. Donaciano Do Costa Gomes.

“ADMM plays a very important role in overcoming security challenges, through meaningful dialogue, exchanging ideas, and establishing partnerships with the principles of mutual trust, transparency, and collaboration. “This meeting can also be a catalyst for achieving results that can be implemented,” said Prabowo.

Minister of Defense Prabowo hopes that all delegations will engage in constructive discussions, look for innovative solutions, and identify concrete steps to overcome security challenges in the region.

“I am confident that our collective understanding and commitment will pave the way to a safer, more prosperous and more resilient ASEAN community,” stressed Minister of Defense Prabowo.

On this occasion, Defense Minister Prabowo also expressed his concern about the conflict in Myanmar and the situation in Gaza. The Indonesian government will make every effort to continue humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people and a peaceful solution for Myanmar.

In the 17th ADMM activities, a number of prominent defense and security issues were discussed, such as geopolitical and geostrategic dynamics in regional and global contexts, defense cooperation within the ASEAN framework, as well as cooperation between ASEAN and Plus Countries. (AT Network)
