ASIATODAY.ID, NEW YORK – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, held a high-level bilateral meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the 27th floor of the UN Headquarters in New York, United States, on Monday, September 22, 2025.
The meeting drew global attention as it focused on strengthening synergy to confront pressing international challenges, from peace and security to sustainable development.
Upon arrival, President Prabowo was warmly received by Secretary-General Guterres. The two leaders posed for an official photo before engaging in a closed-door discussion. The meeting took place shortly after President Prabowo delivered his keynote speech at the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
Indonesia’s Commitment to Multilateralism
According to Foreign Minister Sugiono, President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s strong commitment to global solidarity in maintaining peace and stability. He also underscored the importance of empowering developing countries within the multilateral system.
“Indonesia remains steadfast in its commitment to support multilateralism. The President emphasized that the United Nations must continue to be strengthened as the leading platform for safeguarding global peace,” Foreign Minister Sugiono stated.
Palestine, Gaza, and Indonesia’s Peacekeeping Role
The Palestinian issue featured prominently in the talks. President Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s unwavering support for the two-state solution and expressed full backing for the UN’s mandate to achieve a just and lasting peace.
“The President also conveyed Indonesia’s readiness to deploy peacekeeping forces in Gaza should a ceasefire be reached. This reflects Indonesia’s concrete support for the UN’s mission,” Sugiono added.
High-Level Delegations Present
The bilateral meeting brought together senior officials from both sides. President Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai, Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Umar Hadi.
On the UN side, Secretary-General António Guterres was joined by Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Under-Secretary-General for Policy at the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) Guy Ryder, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, Director of the Sustainable Development Unit Karima El Korri, and EOSG Political Unit officer Hirofumi Goto.
This bilateral engagement reaffirmed Indonesia’s determination to play a pivotal role in global diplomacy, reinforce multilateralism, and actively contribute to resolving conflicts and humanitarian crises around the world. (AT Network)
