ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The chaos from protests in Jakarta has intensified, spilling over into residential areas. In the early hours of Sunday, August 31, demonstrators reportedly looted a house believed to belong to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani in the Bintaro area, South Jakarta. The incident was captured in videos that have since gone viral on social media.
Footage shared by Instagram account @info_cileduk shows crowds breaking into the house around 1:41 a.m. WIB. The protesters carried out household items including chairs, televisions, kitchenware, and teapots, as well as paintings and jewelry.
“What did you get, bro?” asked the videographer.
“Jewelry, of course,” replied one participant, showing off the items he had taken.
A Wave of Looting Targeting Officials’ Homes
This event adds to a growing list of officials’ homes targeted since the wave of protests began on August 25, 2025. Previously, the residence of House of Representatives member Eko Hendro Purnomo, also known as Eko Patrio, in Kuningan, South Jakarta, was looted on the night of Saturday, August 30.
At Eko Patrio’s home, household items, clothing, and electronic goods were scattered across the floor due to broken glass. Protesters reportedly took chairs, lamps, studio speakers, mattresses, and even pets, including an Angora cat from a basement cage.
Security personnel and officers stationed at the location were unable to stop the crowds, who continued to remove valuable items from the three-story luxury home. Residents of various ages and attire, from teenage girls in sleepwear to men in fashionable clothing, participated in carrying out the loot.
“Are there still things inside? We’re still looking,” one participant commented amid the crowd.
Social Impact and Media Attention
The looting drew attention from local residents and was widely circulated on social media. Many participants learned about the location and the looting activity through live streams and video clips shared across multiple online platforms.
This incident underscores the escalating violence during the Jakarta protests and highlights concerns about the security of government officials’ residences amid large-scale demonstrations. (AT Network)
