ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Russia, China, and Indonesia have strongly condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes on Iran, calling the attacks a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law.
The coordinated global reaction signals rising alarm over escalating tensions in the Middle East following Israel’s military assault on Iranian nuclear and military sites.
The Russian Foreign Ministry released a statement Friday denouncing the airstrikes, which reportedly killed several top Iranian officials, including IRGC commander Hossein Salami and Deputy Army Chief Gholam Ali Rashid. Reports also indicated that at least six Iranian nuclear scientists were among the casualties.
“We strongly condemn the violent actions of the State of Israel,” the ministry said.
“These unprovoked military strikes on a sovereign UN member state, targeting sleeping cities and nuclear facilities, are categorically unacceptable.”
Moscow emphasized that the attack occurred just days before critical nuclear talks between Iran and the United States in Oman and during a session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors.
“The timing of the attacks adds a layer of cynicism,” the ministry stated, blaming Israel for choosing escalation over diplomacy. Russia also accused Israel of endangering IAEA personnel and called on the agency to assess the potential radiological consequences of the strike.
Beijing also reacted with strong disapproval. “China firmly opposes any violation of Iran’s sovereignty,” said Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
He expressed grave concern over the potential regional fallout and urged all parties to avoid further escalation.
“China calls on all relevant parties to promote peace and stability in the region,” Lin added.
China’s close ally, Pakistan, joined in condemning the airstrikes, calling them “unjustified acts of aggression.” Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar voiced his country’s solidarity with Iran, stating on X (formerly Twitter), “We stand with the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Indonesia Joins Global Condemnation, Urges Restraint
Indonesia also issued a firm response. Foreign Minister Sugiono expressed deep concern and condemned the Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure.
“This act could further escalate tensions in the Middle East. We urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint,” said Sugiono during a press briefing, June 13, 2025.
Roy Soemirat, spokesperson for Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterated the government’s stance: “The attacks clearly violate international law and undermine regional stability. Indonesia strongly condemns the act.”
Soemirat confirmed that Indonesia’s embassy in Tehran has been in contact with its citizens in Iran to monitor their safety. There are currently 383 registered Indonesian nationals in the country.
Contingency plans have been prepared should emergency evacuation or protection become necessary.
“Since July 2024, we have already been on alert status 2 and have contingency measures in place,” Soemirat stated.
Iran Vows Retaliation as Situation Escalates
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that Israel “should expect severe punishment.” In response to the Israeli strike, Iran launched over 100 drones toward Israeli-held territory. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed most of the drones were intercepted before reaching their targets.
Iran also accused the IAEA of siding with Israel for failing to condemn the attack, calling it “a sign of the agency’s lost credibility.”
Tehran has formally requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to address the matter. (AT Network)
