ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is ready to build the world’s largest amusement park in the city of Riyadh.
It is planned that Qiddiya will be three times the size of Walt Disney World in Florida. Walt Disney World Resort covers 27,520 acres of land in Orlando, Florida. This iconic amusement park complex covers an area of approximately 43 square miles, or the size of San Francisco, California.
The huge Qiddiya area will be filled with hundreds of rides that will take days to try out. The newest rides include the largest rollercoaster in the world.
Reporting from The Sun, Wednesday, January 10 2024, Qiddiya is not just an amusement park, but also a water park, sports city, natural adventure rides and cultural attractions. It also has a shopping center, food court, cinema, aquatic center and car racing facilities.
“This is the biggest undertaking in the world in terms of entertainment, sports, arts, all together and integrated. This has never been done before. So the complexity is exciting,” Philippe Gas, Disney veteran and CEO of Qiddiya, told Blooloop.
Falcon’s Flight The world’s fastest rollercoaster, Falcon’s Flight, is scheduled to open this year in Qiddiya. The ride is claimed to have a top speed of 156mph and plunge over desert cliffs, with a drop of more than 500 feet and a drop of 640 feet.
The current height record holder is Kingda Ka, which is at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, at 456 feet.
The attraction in Saudi Arabia will also be taller than the iconic London Eye, which is 442 feet high. This super rollercoaster will also be the longest, with a record length of 2.64 miles.
The ride will traverse more than 13,000 feet of rail, or nearly a mile longer than the current world record holder, Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land, Japan. Flying over a Formula 1 race track, Falcon’s Flight will also beat the current record holder for speed.
Formula Rossa at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi reaches speeds of 149 mph and requires drivers to wear protective eyewear.
The train on Falcon’s Flight will accommodate 14 people, two in the front section and four in each of the next three sections, with each row equipped with its own windshield, eliminating the need to wear protective glasses. Six Flags will also have the world’s largest self-powered shooting tower attraction, the Sirocco Tower, and the world’s largest pendulum swing, the Gyrospin.
Qiddiya is one of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious projects as the kingdom spends £1 trillion in a bid to move away from dependence on oil. Through major investments as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, the kingdom has announced major projects worth billions of dollars. (ATN)
