ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Parikudus motorboat carrying 35 passengers capsized in the waters of Rambut Island, Untung Jawa Island Village, South Seribu Islands on Monday afternoon at 15.30 WIB due to being hit by high waves.
Head of the Operations Section of the DKI Jakarta Search and Rescue Agency, Agung Priambodo, stated that the total number of passengers on the ship was 35 people.
Of the 35 people, there were 32 passengers plus 3 crew members who crossed from Asha Resort Payung Island, South Seribu Islands to Mutiara Beach, North Jakarta.
“One victim from Taiwan named Shi Yi is still missing, while 31 passengers plus 3 crew members have been evacuated,” he said.
He explained that the missing victim was wearing a gray t-shirt, black pants and a black hat.
“This victim is around 40-45 years old and is still missing,” he said.
Currently the joint team is still searching for the missing victims. The search was carried out using a Search and Rescue Agency ship consisting of six personnel and assisted by a Fire and Rescue Service ship.
“If it has not been found, the search will be carried out again on Tuesday, March 12 morning,” he said.
Currently all survivors have been evacuated by officers from the South Seribu Islands Sector Police, assisted by the Marina Express Ship which happened to be passing near the scene of the incident.
Seribu Islands Resort Police Chief, AKBP Jarot stated that there were 10 foreign nationals who were victims of the sinking ship.
“There were 10 foreign nationals and 22 Indonesian citizens who were passengers on the ship that capsized,” said AKBP Jarot in Jakarta.
He explained that the 10 foreign nationals consisted of five Chinese citizens, 4 Taiwanese citizens and 1 Korean citizen. (ANT)
